A humorous way to say that someone is gay is le gusta el arroz con popote, literally, he likes to eat rice with a straw, a reference to oral sex. Also: Se le hace agua la canoa.

You're best off just saying something like: "pues, no soy hetero y eso es todo." probably wise to leave out "y estoy en contra de la heteronorma" in casual conversations. Oh and if you're comfortable just using "gay", know that it's pronounced as in English. Only the elderly pronounce it as if it were Spanish. -- a fellow queer.
